  The Bee-Eater Photo Hide

A Bird Hide at Mashatu

Please note that the Bee-eater Hide can not be prebooked. This bird hide is seasonal and it also depends on the fact wether the bee-eaters are in the reserve or not. Bookings can only be made when you are camp and camp will check if it is up and running.

Perched on the side of the Mojale River this hide overlooks the goings on of a white -fronted bee-eater colony. The birds are resident, so photography is possible all year round. This is the place for the bird in flight photographer, with the aerial antics of the birds providing the ultimate challenge to capture in camera. When they are photographed though, their sheer brilliance in colour makes all the effort very worthwhile. A nearby perch provides the opportunity for beautiful portrait images too. The breeding season starts in September, and this heralds courtship displays and bringing food to the colony- a very exciting time for the birds, but an even more exciting time for photographers!

Drive time from lodge: The colony is 20 minutes drive from Main camp.
Recommended lenses: 70-200 and up to 600mm.
